Bulletin board: Cross-country postseason starts Saturday

Area cross-country teams will start their postseason run Saturday at Tuscola’s Wimple Park (Class 1A) or the UI Arboretum (Class 2A). Girls’ 3-mile races will start at 10 a.m., with the boys’ race to follow at 10:45.

In Class 1A, seven teams and the top five individuals not on an advancing team will qualify for the sectional.

In Class 2A, six teams and the top five individuals not on an advancing team will qualify for sectional.

The competing schools at Tuscola are Arthur-Lovington, Bismarck-Henning, Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman, Hoopeston Area, Monticello, Oakwood, Paris, Paxton-Buckley-Loda, St. Joseph-Ogden, St. Thomas More, Unity, Urbana Uni High and Villa Grove/Heritage, in addition to the host Warriors.

St. Thomas More’s Nick Hess is the defending 1A regional champion.

In two years, Tuscola will host a sectional meet.

Centennial is the host for the 10-school regional at Illini Meadows course (near Florida and Lincoln avenues). Joining the Chargers are Champaign Central, Charleston, Danville, Effingham, Mahomet-Seymour, Mattoon, Rantoul, Taylorville and Urbana.

The regional won’t return to Urbana until 2016.
